Extreme Vocal Institute vocal coach David Benites demonstrates how you can use a voice crack to find the fry scream in a new YouTube short that has amassed over 500,000 views in 24 hours and over 1 million views in under 48 hours. The fry scream is one of two main techniques used by vocalists in the metal and hard rock genres.
This is one of many viral short form clips David has made that have helped hundreds of thousands of aspiring vocalists across the world access their screams for the first time. While the clips themselves may be comical in nature, there is a reason for it. Laughter while learning is scientifically proven to help retain information.
Give this a try and see if it can help you unlock your fry scream! If this particular method doesn’t work, don’t worry because David has a whole lot of other short-form fry scream videos for you to try out.
Fry scream is often used by metalcore, hardcore and hard rock artists conveying emotion like anguish, desperation, sadness due to its emphasis on higher overtones as the standout characteristic of the technique but can also be manipulated into darker, more distorted versions to adapt to “heavier” subgenres of metal like deathcore.
