From Ashes To New vocalist Danny Case discusses vocal experimentation on 'Reflections' on Behind The Screams

From Ashes To New are seeing massive success with their new record Reflections and the story truly showcases how dedicated they were to delivering an honest record that felt true to them. Vocalist Danny Case discussed the band's journey of creating Reflections with David Benites on Behind The Screams–from scrapping what they had initially to exploring new territory vocally and more.

🎧 David's Recommendation for Reflections: "Your Ghost"

Case and Benites talk a lot about the songwriting process for Reflections and how the band double-downed on their choice to scrap their original ideas in favor of creating a more authentic and emotional record that both satisfied them artistically without hyper-fixating on checking off boxes to fit a specific mold. Case discusses how he feels the band's songwriting abilities have evolved and their choice to lean into more sentimental feelings rather than tapping into what might be more expected of them.

On the vocal front, Case and Benites talk the contrast of Case and vocalist Matt Brandyberry's parts on Reflections and how he experimented a lot vocally with his parts on the album. Case talks about having learned the importance of experimentation on this album, balancing different vocal placements, such as a darker, fuller sound with a lower larynx for lower parts, versus a brighter, higher-pitched approach. They realized not every part needs to be "balls to the wall" intensity and that variety, including falsetto and clean singing, serves the music better.
