Hunter Young of Moodring is the latest guest on the Behind the Screams Podcast presented by Extreme Vocal Institute. He and host and vocal coach David Benites discussed Moodring's new record death fetish available now via SharpTone Records; diving into the process of creating the record, the decision to scrap the original production of the record for a more "raw" and "human" approach, the intense subject matter of the record and the process of creating art out of illness and more.
Young and Benites discuss Young's work ethic and artistic drive that persists even while suffering from chronic illness and chronic pain that has limited his ability to tour. Young keeps busy with projects Moodring and PSYCHO-FRAME in addition to managing bands and artists, working in the production space and perhaps most importantly, taking care of his health.
Production and the recording process are key subjects that come up throughout the conversation, with Benites and Young diving into Young's approach to recording vocals and music in general, embracing the imperfection and discussing the importance of the raw, real elements in both music creation and production in a world being infiltrated with artificial intelligence-generated music. They also discuss the idea of creating music for the self, not being concerned about the commercialization of it for the sake of writing something commercial.
