Feeling like your false cord scream is a little lackluster? Vocal coach David Benites of Extreme Vocal Institute offers an easy trick to help toughen up the character of your false cord scream. The false cord scream is one of two main techniques used by extreme vocalists to produce all the growls, gurgles, shrieks, yells and squeals that you hear in metal, hardcore and hard rock music.
False cord screams are characterized by the lower rumbling distortion created by the vibration of the false cords. In this short, you can hear how small changes shifts the emphasis on different overtones giving you a shift in tonality, in this case to come across as "tougher".
